2022 is the #1cor13project year of
Truth Telling
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
-1 Cor 13:16
Denial. Dismissal. Deflection.
The knee jerk responses of mostly non-black people when confronted with America’s painful and oppressive history of Dis-Membering black people.
It seems easier to delight in the people, places and things that make America a great nation for some while ignoring the truths that makes it less than great for others.
If 1 Corinthians 13 is a barometer for loving, and America has failed to rejoice in her truth then America has never loved black people.
What’s more the Christian church in America has been complicit in the unloving by failing to delight in the truth about race.
Conversation with Lisa Sharon Harper
Deny:
The act of declaring something is not true.
I.e. Racism doesn’t still exist. Slavery wasn’t as brutal as they say it was.
Dismissal:
the act of treating something as unworthy of serious consideration
I.e. Why do we have to talk about it? It’s not the school’s job to teach that part of American history.
Deflection:
an intense focus upon and antagonism toward the legitimacy of the actions, feelings, and beliefs of others
If 1 Corinthians 13 is a barometer for loving, and America has failed to rejoice in her truth then America has never loved black people.
What’s more the Christian church in America has been complicit in the unloving by failing to delight in the truth about race.

“Joy is an act of resistance”

“Joy is a moral victory against extremism and a political win, fueling us to persist and resist. Joy is resistance to the hate that fills the front page.”
— Brittany Packnett Cunningham
“The sharing of joy, whether physical, emotional, psychic, or intellectual, forms a bridge between the sharers, which can be the basis for understanding much of what is not shared between them, and lessens the threat of their difference.”
— Audre Lorde
