Having a birth plan decreases the likelihood of birth trauma and gives birth givers a voice and a great deal of control over their birth experience. 

Acting as Birth Doula

A Birth Doula is a non-medical birth assistant who helps the birth giver create a personalized birth plan for an optimal birth experience. In addition to providing evidence based data, a doula also provides comfort measures during labor, personal labor coaching for partner[s] during labor and advocates on behalf of the birth giver with medical professionals and hospital staff to ensure the birth giver has the leading voice in the birth and the birth plan is respected.
